When Should I Wear a Heart Rate Monitor?

There are tons of exercise gadgets available on the market today, potentially making you wonder how much money you should invest in them as you work on increasing your fitness levels. Heart rate monitors are among one of your options, but not everyone who works out needs one all the time. So when should you wear one?

When You Are Just Beginning to Work Out

In order to get the best results from your exercise routine possible, you want to work out at 60 to 95 percent of your target heart rate (which is 220 minus your age). And if you’re new to working out, you may not know how to tell whether or not you are in this particular zone, making a heart rate monitor important to ensuring that you’re not being too easy or too hard on yourself.

When You Are Engaged in Higher Level Training

Experienced athletes know that working out at various heart rates produces different results in regard to fat loss, improved stamina, and more. Thus, they will often use heart rate monitors to ensure that they are right where they want to be. This makes this a great option if you’re involved in higher level training and want to do the same.

When You Have a Medical Condition

If you have a medical condition (such as a heart-related condition) and exercise could possibly hurt you if you work out too hard, then wearing a heart rate monitor is critical to your life, as well as your health and wellness. Of course, if this is the case, you want to get your doctor’s approval first to make sure it’s okay for you to exercise at all. Once you have it, ask where to keep your heart rate so that you exercise in the zone most beneficial to you.

These are just three of the times when it is important to wear a heart rate monitor. Any more you can think of? Add them below!
