Apple Fitness Plus vs Peloton Fitness: Which is the Best App?

With so many workout options now available, it can be difficult to know what’s the best route to take for overall fitness. Uber-popular online fitness applications now include Apple Fitness Plus and Peloton Fitness.

Which could be best for you? Here’s a look at the benefits and drawbacks of both these applications.

Apple Fitness Plus  $12.99USD/month

Equipment

Apple Watch Series 3 or later

iPhone

iPad

Apple TV

You can access Apple Fitness+ on any of the devices listed above. (You don’t need them all to use it). You can’t access this application on a non-Apple device or on a Mac desktop, at the time of this writing.

Benefits

Apple Fitness+ is a fitness application offering users access to 10 different types of workouts. You pay a monthly subscription for access to Apple’s workouts, trainers, personal metrics, and more.

If you are someone who already owns at least one of the Apple devices listed above and you want to train on your own with coaching, this fitness system could be for you.

With an Apple Watch, this application gives you access to heart rate monitoring, how many kilojoules you’ve burned, and an analysis of how your performance compares to others doing the same workout. It also provides users with a wide array of workout levels. You can choose something that best suits your fitness level and adjust as needed.

Finally, Apple Fitness+ is great as you can bring it with you. Love that treadmill workout but you’re now traveling? Access it via your Apple Watch and use the hotel workout room.

Average workout time

Workouts are available from 5 mins to 45 mins long. New content is added weekly.

Drawbacks

If you don’t have access to Apple devices, you will have to invest a lot of money to get started. A new Apple Watch costs about a minimum of $300USD, for example.

Peloton Fitness $39USD/month (bike) $16.99USD/month (digital membership)

Benefits

The Peloton fitness system is more complicated than Apple’s, at least at the outset. Peloton is a stationary bike that connects to streamed cycling workout classes, both live and via library, that can only be accessed on the bike. You use this system in your own home.

In addition, the Peloton Digital Membership exists. This can be used as an application on a wide variety of iOS and Android devices and Fire TVs, and can also be accessed on Peloton’s web platform.

If you love biking indoors, you want a consistent challenge in each workout, you crave the leadership of a fitness trainer, and you bike very often, a Peloton bike could be for you. This world-class bike system provides high-level training and access to skilled leaders, stats, and more.

The company’s stand-alone digital membership provides users with access to thousands of live and on-demand fitness classes and workouts. These don’t necessarily require equipment. (Think walking, running, bootcamp, etc). Like Apple’s app, you can take it anywhere your connected device can go.

A final benefit to Peloton’s digital membership is that the app is more easily accessible than Apple’s, and available for use on just about any smartphone.

Average workout time

Bike workouts are about 20 mins to 90 mins long. Digital Membership workouts vary.

Drawbacks

Peloton’s bike system is very expensive and requires that you purchase a Peloton bike and specific cycling shoes. This can set you back thousands of dollars. If you’re into biking indoors, however, it can be worth it!

Both Apple Fitness+ and Peloton Fitness have loads of benefits for users. Choose the right platform to suit your needs and budget, and with consistent activity, you should begin to see results soon.
