The Body Skeletal System

The Skeletal system is made up from bones and tissues ; ligaments, tendons and cartilage.

Shape

Shape of the skeleton gives our body its characteristics and provides a framework for muscular attachment within our body. Without its characteristics the body framework  would not be unable to perform  movement and our human bodies  would be simple blobs of muscle and fat without the Skeletal.

Protection

The skeleton protects the delicate internal structures. For example the skull protects the brain and  rib cage protects the heart and lungs. The vertebral column or back bone consists of 24 articulating vertebrae it protects the spinal cord and our spinal canal.

Storage

Our bones serve as our body’s main storage facility for mineral salts. Minerals such as calcium and magnesium phosphate, both of which are essential for growth and health. Our bones owe the hardness and strength structure from these mineral deposits. Blood cell production takes place with in the  bone marrow of certain bones, this process constantly produces red and white cells.

Movement

Bones provide the structure for muscles to attach, helping the ability to move. The bones act as leavers pulling tendons and ligaments into positions, they work like elastic bands holding and attaching our muscles to our bones.
